There’s something about a haunted hotel that really speaks to me.

Whenever an opportunity to stay in a haunted hotel presents itself, I absolutely take it. And I’m perfectly happy to just stand in line at the Tower of Terror and soak up atmosphere. So I do think the @theboomont was designed for me specifically.

I know that technically the first day of autumn has come and gone, but spiritually, for me, October 1st is when it hits. Maybe because all of the flowers are still in bloom and the weather is still appropriate for shorts if I wish it.

But I do know that October is the beginning of the end for summer even here in Texas

To celebrate (or memorialize?) here are some flowers from our garden still in bloom (including a pretty Daisy) plus some bonus pics from this year’s summer adventures

girls trip to Atlanta to see @ateez_official_

Atlanta had a lot to overcome from our last trip, but she managed. Such a good concert and such a fun time. Can’t wait for more.

Last month, I saw an advertisement for a candle making class for one of the coolest candles I’ve ever seen.

I knew I didn’t know anyone who wanted to get into candle making with me, but then I saw the class was on Mother’s Day and decided to take myself as a gift to me.

I’m just so glad I did and that I didn’t let having to attend alone dissuade me from signing up.

I love the candle I made, and I’m happy I was able to give it to my own mom as a gift.

My Mother’s Day wish for all the moms out there is that you were also able to spend the day doing something you wanted to do just for you. Just because.

And thank you to @juneslifetx and @lsmercantile for such a neat class. I can’t believe I got to leave with such a cool, one of a kind candle.

Anyone who knows me knows that I love @ateez_official_

I am also, and always have been, a fan of their main producer #EDEN of @official_edenary. Even before I knew he was a producer for ATEEZ, I loved other songs he produced and his solo work.

I have always felt that all EDEN songs were created just for me, which is I think the sign of a good artist: to effectively communicate emotions through their chosen medium.

His songs make me feel, and they make me think. This is true of all of ATEEZ’s music, but it is also true of his solo work and work for other groups.

So thank you EDEN, for making such great music. Today was special because I was able to celebrate you, and I hope that you had a lovely day filled with only good things and messages. #이든

Chili’s is a place of my childhood. It was where we went after football games or events and sometimes just because. Because it had tables big enough and prices cheap enough, and it had skillet queso.

My memories of Chili’s aren’t good or bad—they’re barely even memories. I was there with friends doing the things we did, talking about the things we talked about. I couldn’t even tell you the names of those friends. Chili’s was for high school me, and high school me is unrecognizable. There’s been no place in my life for dinners at Chili’s in the last twenty years.

I’ve always been good at reinventing myself. I left high school and never talked to my high school friends again. I left college, and my college friends were largely forgotten. After my divorce, I found it hard to talk to the people who had known me when I was married. It was always the same thing: those people didn’t know me—they knew a version of me that existed for a moment in time and no longer did, not me.

And sometimes I feel I’ve spent most of my life running. Running towards something or running away, but always running. But lately, there’s been no room for running. Lately, I’ve been trying to be more grateful, more gracious, and even more still. Life has reminded me that the things I have now are not things I can have forever, and memories and moments are only what you make them.

And it’s funny at the age of 36, I’d find myself back at Chili’s, this time with my parents, my brother, my son, and my husband.

Things at Chili’s are different. The skillet queso doesn’t come in a skillet; the lava cake is dry; the food is expensive. But I’m different too. Maybe the food was too salty and maybe they brought out the wrong things. Maybe you can’t go back.

But my new memories of Chili’s are golden, more meaningful, and more crystallized. My son showing off his Lego. My brother and I laughing at my mom. My dad making it an Occasion even though it was just Chili’s.

And so I feel weirdly grateful to Chili’s, both for fitting back then and still fitting now. I am not the person I used to be, and Chili’s probably won’t become a staple of my life, but it will always be a part of my story.

Like its financial status, Evermore’s concept too is always evolving. At the heart, it’s an ‘immersive fantasy experience’, and throughout the park’s history, it has been both so much more and so much less. But the idea of visiting Evermore has weighed on me—an insatiable curiosity to see it for myself.

And then I saw the Forbidden Forest Experience billboard off the exit ramp of the highway. The website described an outdoor walk through ‘immersive fantasy experience’, and it was as if I had an out of body experience. No questions asked, I bought the $200 tickets for our family before the light turned green.

I never expected to enjoy it, just as I don’t expect to enjoy Evermore. I just *needed* to see it. And as we walked in, the rain absolutely pouring, Geoffrey said, ‘Okay, we need to have $200’s worth of fun.’

And you know what? I think we did. Was the it great and worth the price? Maybe not. But the magical effects were delightful; the colorful lighting in the trees was beautiful. And also, I can’t remember the last time William, Geoff, and I did something truly different and saw something totally new.

Often my days are filled with sameness, and sameness makes my soul weary. It’s part of the reason I’ve always been drawn to new hobbies, new information, new things to obsess over.

Sometimes, I worry my restlessness is doing more harm than good, but still. My quest for novelty has led to experiences far beyond the original scope. And if you think about it, it’s pretty fucking cool that discovering ATEEZ led me to making a friend who suggested an (unrelated) Jenny Nicholson video that ultimately led me to having a soul healing time at the Forbidden Forest Experience.
